Absolutely U. (franchise)

Absolutely U. is a franchise created by Breanna Burton, which consists of a scripted episode series and drawings based upon the characters.

Production

While creating new artwork for her Monster High OCs, Breanna decided to create a new idea which she could blend in her own way, as she could not with her Monster High ideas since there was a whole canon to keep to. She kept the supernatural element but made characters that went to a university, so they could branch out with more mature ideas while still aimed to a PG-13 audience. In secret, Breanna spent time creating characters, plotlines and even episodes of these characters, including art based on her Monster High work. However, she decided to create her own base to set a difference between the two franchises - the AU bases are smaller than those of Monster High. Breanna posted teasers about the franchise on her DeviantArt and will reveal the brand in the September of 2013.

Overview

The series revolves around university level student Norah Cardew, who is sent to a secretive and elite titular boarding school named Absolutely University, where she discovers her own magic powers. She shares adventures with her new dorm mates Marley Leverson, Sienna Melworth and Valeri Sewell, while encountering new friends (and frenemies) along the way. While doing this, she's writing her own destiny in becoming a successful magic student.

The stories often revolve around one character, though some are more based on groups of characters. . In the first episode, the nine lead characters (Norah, Marley, Sienna, Valeri, Lance, Tucker, Brooke, Priya and Quinn) are all introduced, as well as several other characters such as Norah's parents and her sister Charlotte. Usually, the process of introducing new characters will contain an episode revolving around them as their debut, which will be the case for the new characters coming later in the series. However, the character (if it is a student) will almost always be a backgrounder in previous episodes (with special exceptions).

Characters

The lead character roster of Absolutely U was designed as an ensemble of university-age students, each with a unique spell and a pet puppy. There are also characters that are family members and staff of Absolutely University.

Episodes

The episodes of Absolutely U are written to build stories for the characters. There are 24 episodes planned for the first wave of stories, with a second planned soon.

Fashions

Fashion is incorporated into the series by Breanna's drawings of the characters, including full character art. The fashion aspect takes form as if it were a doll franchise, with several 'lines' incorporated into the episodes by situations, and additionally, Valeri's own talent in fashion design. 

Music

Music also plays a big part in Absolutely U, as Breanna writes several songs for occassional episodes. They are written after the episode is written and based upon the storylines. 

Trivia

• This is not the first time that Breanna has made a new franchise. In 2012, Breanna had a line named Epic Girls, which involved a high school band. 
• The series was heavily inspired by My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, including the message aspect and songs.
